Tips on Reducing Swelling
Tips for Sprains and Strains:
A sprain is a tear in a band called a ligament that holds bones together at a joint.
A strain is a tear in a muscle.
The treatment for a sprain or strain is RICE:
- R = Rest the injured body part
- I = Ice
- C = Compression – wrap snugly with a bandage
- E = Elevation – prop injured area up higher than the heart
RICE reduces swelling. Do this process for 20 to 30 minutes. Repeat as necessary when painful.
Tips for Insect Stings
- Remove the stinger by scraping it away from the skin with a fingernail or credit card.
